Everson lorieeverson@bellsouth.net Published: The Observer 26 Oct 2005 Marjorie Royal CORDELE - Graveside services for Marjorie Royal were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, at Sunnyside Cemetery with the Rev. George Nelson officiating. Ms. Royal, 96, died in Cordele Health & Rehab Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005. Born Saturday, Oct. 9, 1909, in Crisp County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Jackson Royal and Bertha Pate Royal. After receiving her degree in education from Wesleyan College in Macon, she taught for 32 years at Northern Heights School and O'Neal Elementary School in Cordele. Ms. Royal was a life-long member of Cordele First United Methodist Church where she also sang in the choir. She was a past member of the Cordele Symphony Club and several professional organizations. She was an extremely talented artist and sculptor and was an accomplished poet, historical pageant writer for Crisp County and Wesleyan College, and a world traveler. She is survived by a niece, Kathy Wootten Roe of Jesup; a nephew, Franklin Joseph Ogburn Jr. of Alpharetta; great nieces, Kathryn L. Held of Anchorage, Alaska, Marjorie Allison L. Dean of Jesup, Michelle Wootten Coleman of Alpharetta, Leah Kilgore McElroy and Leslie Kilgore both of Dallas, Texas; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Katherine Royal Wootten, Eleanor Royal Ogburn, Dorothy Royal Gower and Thomas Jackson Royal Jr. Rainey Family Funeral Service of Cordele had charge of the arrangements.
